Medium and small businesses face unique challenges that cybersecurity leaders, processes, and technology solutions often find difficult to address. These businesses frequently lack the resources, budget, and specialized staff necessary to protect against cyber threats. Additionally, the economics of safeguarding against high-impact, low-frequency incidents typically favor larger companies. Consequently, medium and small businesses often feel neglected by providers, as they do not represent a significant revenue source compared to multinational brands.

In this presentation, we will examine the distinctions between medium and small businesses, determine the appropriate level of security they should implement, and provide a sample maturity model for developing a security team as the company expands. Additionally, we will address how to respond to large enterprises when they impose their security requirements. Finally, we will share Vercara's experience in establishing a right-sized approach for medium and small businesses.
